Today I actually finished the last step of my GP card application -- writing a cover letter and sticking letter, form and documentation in an envelope[1]. The bloody thing had been knocking about only since oh, last summer.
It had the deadly combination (as far as my procrastination habit is concerned) of being About Money and requiring documentation that (a) was not clearly specified and (b) had to be requested from several other places. I'm starting to see the patterns of my procrastination, and I hope this will be useful in overcoming it. (There were also a couple of practical glitches that contributed to the delay, but procrastination was the main culprit.)
This was the only major boulder left in my list of things to do, and removing it should free up a lot of my brain. Apart from the direct pleasure of having more free brain, I also expect the rest of the list to move faster now that this is gone -- because now when I look at the list I can skip the bit where I go "I should really be doing the GP card thing" and (a) immediately feel exhausted and (b) waste time trying to bring myself to do it, without success.
So yeah, happy :-)
(Oh, and the title is actually what we would say in my family when someone finally does something they've been supposed to do for a long time... Yeah, I think it's more famous for its rather infrequent use from a balcony in the Vatican, but that has nothing to do with GP card applications.)
[1] Should I not wait until the thing is posted before rejoicing, you might ask? Not really -- once the envelope is sealed, posting it is not a problem -- more like an excuse to stroll to the GPO and look at some Celtic Revival porn[2].
[2] Ok, ok, significant and cultural bronze statue of the Death of Cúchulainn by Oliver Shepherd which has no naughty bits on view whatsoever. Pay no attention to the ropes and the vast quantities of young male flesh.
